I was excited to have the opportunity to review "In The Hospital". It was wonderful to discover a professional, fun, sensitive and thoughtful collection of songs that could be used to ease a child's transition and stay in a hospital. The discussion and music lyrics capture effectively the feelilngs of a child who was faced with an illness that resulted in hospitalization. The intent of the messages in the songs and dialogue reflect empathy, and an understanding of how a child might feel scared, resentful, angry and vulnerable. The material offers dialogue that answers many questions that children may ask and further provides information that would be empowering. The lyrics are concrete and meaningful; children would find it easy to identify with their intent. This resource would draw an audience of young people of varying ages. Even my 14 year old found himself sitting and listening through the recording and flipping through the booklet with ease and interest.
I would not hesitate in recommending this resource to parents and agencies working with children with illnesses requiring hospitalization.
